RE: Instant Garages

Has anybody owned or seen one of these in person? Camping World sells them but doesn't stock them. Before I spend $2500 I would like to hear folk's opinions. Here is the link to Camping World. http://www.campingworld.com/shopping/item/14w-x-40l-x-16h-peak-style-garage-green/33355 Link to the maker. http://www.shelterlogic.com/garages/ Thank you for your time and thoughts. RS I don't have the one from CW but I have one from that company it's a 12'X 24' X 10'Barn Style Shelter #90155. I have had it for one year, and so far I like it. Only time will tell how long it will last. I use it to store my farm tractor. What I like over the last one I had is the white inside, this lets a lot of light in. The last one I had lasted over 12 years and it was a dark green so I needed a light to see inside when I wanted to work on my tractor. Yes...I would buy another one. I bought mine from "Tractor Supply Company". All the parts were well marked, and I had no problem putting it together. I did have a question on the roll up door and when I called the help number I received the help I needed, and "yes" I got a live person to help with my questions. I hope this helps.

RE: Crossing Safety Chains

I never cross my chains. My "chains" are actually a single chain that is attached in the middle behind the coupler. Crossing them would not change the ability of the chain to support the tongue weight in the event the hitch failed. Having them the right length, though, is pertty important. Glen In Pennsylvania it's the law, the two safety chains must be crossed!

RE: Trailer Brakes

Well I rewired my trailer brakes from the axles back. Someone suggested that the wire that runs through the axles could be causing a short which is causing the controller to say warning overload no brakes. Well that didn't really work. I check all the magnets resistances and they are all within the spec they should be. 2 of the magnets were reading 1 low 1 high so after removing the magnet and checking it without the plug the magnet tested fine so I removed the plugs and rewired. Well 2 times last night the controller said overload no brakes but this happened while the was not using the brakes. So logic would say to me that it is a short somewhere and not the brakes themselves. So the only place could be the wire from the plug back to the axles. Someone had mentioned the plug could be dirty and causing an arc which is causing the short. Now could the brakes being out of adjustment cause the overload? Last year I had the same problem you have, and yes the adjustment was my problem after I adjusted them my problem was gone.I also checked all the wires and found that whey were all OK. Another question is how well should the brakes be working. To clarify I have to set the gain all the way to 13.whatever it goes to. When I use the manual lever it doesn't feel like the brakes are really working until I get to around 6-7 volts and the brakes will not lock up at full gain. Suggestions on how I could get the gain lower with more effective brakes would be appreciated. I had a mechanic look at the drums and shoes and they look fine so what should I do? Also when I adjust the brakes what is the procedure for telling where they are set properly. Should the wheel move? Should the brakes drag a little bit what should I do? Thanks alot guys everyone has been a tremendous help so far. Also I got the fridge lit finally. The internal controls were disconnected from the pilot and what not. I lit it from the outside and bam cold fridge and frozen freezer in 6hours. Adam

RE: Awning Cleaning

I use Mr.Clean Magic Eraser (the little white sponge) on the awning and it works terrific; just with water. This is what we use as well. It's really amazing how well these little sponges work on an awning with very little elbow grease! Word of warning: DO NOT USE THEM on the side of your RV, it will take the finish right off. The Mr. Clean Magic Eraser also works great in the shower! I just use soap and water in the shower:S

RE: Fuel Rants & Raves - Post 'Em Here!

We all rant and rave about the problem, but what can we as an individual really do? First I think we should all get out and vote, and get rid of all the big money people running our country. They don't have a problem with the high price of gas like the working people do. The big oil companies are making sooooooo much profit each quarter it not funny. With that said then why do they raise the price of gas within hours of the barrel of oil going up. Can't they suck up some of the increase themselves? I would not complain if only they were really working on a way to bring down the price of gas. The only thing they are doing is holding out both hands. I don't care what some people say there is a point where this (gas problem) will destroy our way of life and I believe it not very far away. Being retired we have a limited income and the camping game for us is coming to a stop until the price of gas gets under control.

RE: Alaska at today's fuel price

The fuel costs a thousand or so more. If you can't afford the difference, you shouldn't have been planning to go in the first place. I think you have it all wrong. many people with children plan on summer trips and save all winter long, then the price goes up every day like it has for gas, and the family has to change their plans. It has happened a lot in the last few weeks, and you are saying they should not have planed in the first place?

RE: Anyone Want to Buy Some Snake Oil??

Anybody bought one? Perhaps the RV.net site could make the following arrangement with the advertiser: GIVE a volunteer on the site free of charge one of their gizmos (whatever it is), and let the volunteer try it out for free. If it works, they can stay advertising on the site. When it doesn't work, tell them to go away and take their scam/fraud with them. I think you have a great idea.

RE: 2nd shift...have you worked it, did you like it?

Well.... I'm not sure what you call 2nd shift.. Where I worked 2nd shift was 7am to 3pm.. I worked 3rd shift 3pm to 11pm for around 22 years Loved it Kind of did in my social life however If you are in Michigan, PM me and I'll give you a phone number for those who are no longer with the company I retired from a steel mill and we also called the 11-7-AM shift the first shift, because it's the first one on the clock.:h

RE: Storing the blue holding tank when traveling??

I know Les USED TO carry his on the rear! :B I had this bracket fab'd up at my local welding shop. I only have a 15 gallon blue tote...I find it easier to handle...weighs next to nothing empty Good luck, joe. http://inlinethumb17.webshots.com/23888/2551679840099735294S600x600Q85.jpg http://inlinethumb32.webshots.com/42655/2298700900099735294S600x600Q85.jpg I did the same thing as you did. I made the bracket and I just place the tank in it and strap it down.

RE: There should be a law!!

I think you do not understand the math. new unit= $50,000 trade in = $30,000 difference= $20,000 add loan balance $25,000 Amount due $45,000 Now that sounds better:h

RE: Will there be mobile rvs in ten years?

If prices increase as projected, where will the average RVer be in ten years? Sure, now those with a rig will continue to use it somewhat, is any one going to plan cross county or long trips if it costs two or three dollars a mile to drive down the road? There are always those, altho they are getting fewer, that say cost will not effect them, lets face it, few of us are Bill Gates, if costs become high enough, it will effect us all. I personaly do not think this is a good time to invest in either RV manufacturing or campgrounds, just might be that soon we will return to the days of fifty years ago when the ordinary guy could afford neither. Not if you don't grease the wheel bearings:S

RE: This topic oughta stir it up

I can't believwe what just happened tonight. Our oldest son and wife came for dinner and they went out to our 5'er to ck. it out. She's never seen it and he's seen it once. They were shocked at how much room we have, etc. and my son says...hang on to your hats... "Yeah, we'll borrow it sometime..." (and he was being serious..) huh, huh, huh...uh...I don't THINK so! I just looked at him and didn't respond. THANK GOD we're moving away in 3 wks.! Oh don't get me wrong, I'd tell him NO in a New York minute, but I don't HAVE to. Then I heard him say to his wife..."honey, would you like us to get one of these?"...that's the best idea yet...then he can find out just how much is involved financially and physically. Just the thought of him going out with it TERIFIES me. Agreed. Certain things I do NOT allow to be borrowed: 1. Wife 2. Motorhome 3. Toothbrush 4. Chainsaw 5. 4-wheeler I once saw a sign in a garage that said," I LOVE MY TOOLS LIKE YOU LOVE YOUR WIFE...DON'T ASK TO BORROW MY TOOLS AND I WON'T ASK TO BORROW YOUR WIFE".:B

RE: Travel Trailers vs. Fifth-Wheels

We looked hard at the 5'er when we bought this TT during the off season. Not having a place to haul my kayaks, plus DW having bad knees, and not wanting to climb stairs in and out of the bedroom were the deal-breaker. We have the same problem here...wife can't do steps very well, so the extra steps up to the bedroom wont work for us. I have never had a problem pulling a trailer, so when we need a new one that's what it will be only longer than our 27 ft. trailer.:B

RE: Run Away Fuel Prices, What Can a Person Do

The petroleum industry does not control supply or demand or the commodity prices. Blame China and India and OPEC not Exxon or Chevron. Maybe we should invade and take over all the OPEC countries, then we would control the world's supply and we could have cheap oil. Otherwise the government can do nothing to help you except decrease fuel taxes I don't believe what you are saying for one minute.. is true. I will only believe that, if the oil co. were not making such a large profit every quarter. Please tell me why they have to make Billions and Billions every three months? There is nothing wrong with making a fair profit, but that goes beyond that.

RE: It's a sad day

It's not only killing the RV industry, but also my business which is a General Contractor. People (most)do not realize that my cost of materials are going up to keep up with the inflation of gas. For example last year a 10 yard dumpster cost 187.00 I just had one dropped off Monday 299.00 same company. IMHO Bush messed this country up extremely bad,and there's no going back. How can you say that Bush is the blame? :h

RE: It's a sad day

NO...DON'T DO IT !! :W:W I can understand your feelings. Our trips are local and I carpool during the week so I save a bunch so that we can go camping a lot (every two weeks)on the weekends. Hopefully something will give with these fuel prices...maybe after November 4th !! :W:W How has this got so out of control? Why do the oil co. boast of the Hugh profits? Our gas price just went today from $3.29 to $3.45 WHY! when the oil co. are already raking in the money by the handfuls? What can we do???????????????

RE: Walmart switched Rx from American company to India

I guess I should have not thrown such a fit when Hawaiian Airlines served me a cookie with my meal made in India. I screamed and hollered ( sort of ) showed everyone else on the airplane and wrote a letter to the CEO. They still serve them I just wonder how much money they can save by out sourcing a oatmeal cookie I wonder just how clean the oven is where they come from???:h Plus what about all the handling that cookie goes through before you get it on the plane.:S

RE: Curiosity question

Everyone has their reasons why they like to camp, RV or whatever term you want to use. Out of curiosity I want to ask this question.... I'll often read posts about satellite or TV's in general and there usually is always several posters that reply they don't have a TV or satellite because they are there to camp and are outside all the time. They don't understand why you'd want to have these items. What I find humorous about this statement is a good number of these comments come from people who in there signature has 30+ foot travel trailer with slides or a big fancy 5er. If these people are outside all the time why such big and fancy rigs? We have a satellite and I will not go anywhere with out it. You see my wife has health problems and some days she has to stay in all day long so she then has something to do. Not everyone is free of health problems and this way we can go camping. So if you see our trailer with the round white dome on top you will know why we put it there.

RE: Refridgerator Question

Hi, We are going to be traveling about 7 hours this summer. Will the food in our camper be ok if we turn it on and pack it, then...turn the power off and travel? or do we have to use the gas????? We would not think of going on a trip with the Frig. turned off.:h Thats why they built them to operate on gas.:S
